BREAKING NEWS: Zambia arrests former president over Nigeria oil deal

Former Zambian president, Mr. Rupiah Banda, was Monday arrested by the country’s law enforcement agents over allegations of corruption and abuse of office, following a crude oil import deal with Nigeria.
Banda was also alleged to have misappropriated about $11 million during his three-year reign as President of the country.
The country’s authorities are accusing him of procuring oil which did not benefit the country.
He was said to have imported crude oil from Nigeria, without actual deliveries, despite the fact that the funds were deposited into the bank account of his son.
Banda, who was released from police custody and is due to appear in court on Tuesday, however, said the moves against him are politically motivated.
He was questioned for close to three hours after his arrest related to the oil deal Monday before he was released on bail.
Banda denies the charges, and his lawyers claim the arrest is an attempt by current President Michael Sata to silence him.
After his release, Banda appeared before his supporters and told them to remain calm, reassuring them he would win his case in court.
Earlier this month, parliament lifted Banda’s presidential immunity, clearing the way for him to be prosecuted for several corruption and abuse of office charges.
Banda lost to President Michael Sata in 2011 elections. The new government has been pursuing the corruption investigations against the former leader and his political allies.
Banda, born 13 February 1937, was President of Zambia from 2008 to 2011.
During the Presidency of Kenneth Kaunda, Banda held important diplomatic posts and was active in politics as a member of the United National Independence Party (UNIP). Years later, he was appointed as Vice-President by President Levy Mwanawasa in October 2006, following the latter’s re-election.
He took over Mwanawasa’s presidential responsibilities after Mwanawasa suffered a stroke in June 2008, and following Mwanawasa’s death in August 2008, he became acting President. As the candidate of the governing Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD), he narrowly won the October 2008 presidential election, according to official results.
Opposition leader Michael Sata defeated Banda in the September 2011 presidential election, and Sata accordingly succeeded Banda as President on 23 September 2011.

BREAKING NEWS: Boko Haram have limited knowledge of Islam – Soyinka

PORT HARCOURT: NOBLE laureate Professor Wole Soyinka has lashed at members of Boko Haram, saying they have limited knowledge of Islamic religion.
Speaking Monady in Port Harcourt at the opening of this year’s Rivers state education summit, organised by the state government Professor Soyinka said poor knowledge of the Koran was largely responsible for why Boko Haram should despise western education.

According to him some of the greatest philosophers in history were Muslims, adding that there was need for members of Boko Haram to be retrained on the content of the religion.
“Boko Haram are not educated enough about their religion to know that some of the greatest philosophers came from the religion. They have been taught one track line (Monorail) about the religion. They need to be re educated about the religion”, he said.
Soyinka who was Chairman of the opening session said government should take urgent steps to redress the decay in the nation’s university system, stressing that he was happy to be invited to the summit to be part of a move to rebuild the educational system.
Professor Emeritus, Ayo Banjo who gave the key note address called for steps to improve on the quality of education at the primary level, stressing that it was the foundation of the educational system.
He traced the high percentage failure recorded in the past at the West Africa School Certificate Examination to a weak foundation at the primary level, adding also that the shaky foundation was also behind poor quality graduates being shunned out by universities in the country.
Professor Banjo further called for a total overhaul of the educational system from the secondary to tertiary level to achieve the best for the nation.
Earlier in his welcome address, governor Chibuike Amaechi said the government was set to engage thirteen thousand teachers to provide the needed manpower to achieve quality education in the state.
He said the newly built modern schools would be managed by private hands for the state. The governor who spoke extensively on some of the challenges militating against quality education in the state said his government had to institute a Quality Assurance Board to check the problems.

MBGN pageant reduces age limit of contestants to 23 years from 26

To contest at the 2013 Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria pageant, you can't be more than 23 years old. For the first time since the pageant was created in the 80s, the age limit of contestants is now 23 years. (18-23) Before now it was 18-26.

The current queen Isabella Ayuk won the pageant last year at the age of 25...and the controversy over her real age was crazy. A lot of people said she was over 30. Plus the age limit for Miss World is 25, so the pageant organizers Silverbird Entertainment must have their reasons for reducing the age limit of contestants going forward.

Every woman needs vagina reconstruction - Modupe Ozolua

The pioneer of cosmetic surgery in Nigeria and CEO of Body Enhancement Limited, Modupe Ozolua said every woman at some point would need vagina reconstruction. She told Chuks Eze of The Sun:

"As long as women have vaginal birth, as long as they have intercourse, and as long as they age, at some point in time, they would need reconstruction. I'm not encouraging every woman to do it, just those who feel they need it or if their gynecologist advises them to do it. But women need to know that vagina reconstruction is different from vagina tightening. If you want to feel like a virgin again, I would ask you to see a gynecologist who will repair the appropriate muscles. Vagina reconstruction is different from going in and repairing whatever to restore virginity.
